“From Sleeping On Platforms To Clearing IAS, An Inspirational Story Of Determination And Grit”

UPSC CSE 2017 EXAM RESULTS announced on 27th April 2018.

This is one of the best success stories I came across.

Name : M Sivaguru Prabhakaran

AIR - 101

YES,

M Sivaguru Prabhakaran wanted to pursue engineering after his class XII exams but couldn't because the situation at home demanded that he work and support his mother and sister. “I couldn't continue my education after Class XII because of my family's financial situation,” said Prabakaran while speaking to TOI about how he managed to secure 101 rank in the UPSC exams despite all odds.

Sivaguru's father was an alcoholic and therefore his mother and sister had to support the home financially. Watching them work day and night, Sivaguru also decided to leave his eduction and work as a sawmill operator.

“I worked as a sawmill operator for two years and did a bit of farming. Whatever money I could muster, I spent some towards my family and saved some for my education. I wasn't prepared to let go of my dreams,” he said.

In 2008, Sivaguru decided to get himself an education too after having already paid for his brother's engineering and marrying off his sister. He enrolled in civil engineering at Thanthai Periyar Government Institute of Technology in Vellore. “My English language skill was not good. I studied in Tamil medium,” Prabakaran said.

But this was not enough for Sivaguru who decided to go to Chennai in the hopes of clearing the IIT entrance. “A friend referred me to a tutor in St Thomas Mount who trained underprivileged students like me,” he said. It was not easy at first as Sivaguru studied during the weekend and took shelter at the platforms of the St Thomas Mount railway station. He would then return to vellore for his college during the week and worked part time to support himself.

After clearing IIT and finishing his M.tech as the top ranked student in 2014, Prabhakaran decided to pursue this dream of becoming an IAS. In his fourth attempt, he cleared the exam with flying colours. His inspirational journey to push himself and his family out of poverty by getting an education is incredibly heartwarming. When such hard working people get into the civil services, you know that they'll build an India of tomorrow that is much stronger and better than what we are now.

3.Rajeshwar  From an ISRO fan to an ISRO employee I think I made myself a name

Journey was tough, depressing and most of all lonely (except for she was there always❤️).

I was a very bad student from my childhood got 62.7% in 10th after that started focusing on my studies changed to state board and got 88.5% in 12th. Then joined a private engineering college for pursuing Mechanical Engineering out of interest. While everyone hated mechanical engineering in my batch I loved it. I decided I wanted to do higher studies in the same.

After graduating in 2018, I dropped a year for GATE and many of my followers know my GATE journey. If you're new you can find it in my profile. After clearing GATE I got into IITK. My first semester was horrible. I got a mere 6.6/10. I thought of quitting my MTech but something inside me and she kept me pushing. Meanwhile I was preparing for ISRO also.

Me in my preparation phase with MTech watching a PSLV launch from home.

Meanwhile I was working hard on my MTech placements also and got placed in M&M as PGET. With the kind guidance of my professor who I will be forever grateful I did my MTech project within time and graduated from IITK.

Me during my convocation. It happened in the same hall where I thought of quitting my MTech during my Mathematics mid sem exam.
